Walk through the cemeteries that gather at the top of canal street to explore the history and purpose of the tombs. Dying in the 1800s sure must have been the cool thing to do, everyone was doing it! Learn about the geography and geology of New Orleans that created these ‘cities of the dead’ in pockets all over New Orleans.
Stroll through time as we move through the streets learning about the first peoples, the French colony, the Spanish, and eventually the Americans up to present day. All the while telling the story of the enslaved peoples that shaped the city. Even where Marie Laveau, the real life Voodoo Queen, captured the imagination of the world. Dashing smugglers and scandalous women abound in this wild ride through history.
Where do you wanna be when night falls? Easy, hanging out in the streets of the old city hearing stories boldly told. Learn and be more than a little frightened while enjoying the bounty of the French Quarter. Vampire stories are a particular favorite of mine.
